DevLog 1: Welcome to Grimoire
A little over 3 months ago I finally pulled the trigger and bought RPG Maker MZ.
I'd been waiting for a sale since I wasn't certain if I was going to really get into it. But a las here I am! Creating an itch.io for a project fully intend to publish.
My name is Puppet Knight,
I'm going to do my best to keep up with this dev log as I do find myself getting a lot of work done on the game on the fly, between meetings and bottle feedings for my son. So bear with me in advanced if there are some gaps in time!
As I have been working on this for a while already we'll treat DevLog 1 as an opportunity to catch you (the reader and future gamer) up to speed with the current systems implemented into the game. Highlight some of the Plugins (or Plugin families) being used, and leave room for open questions you might have if you choose to join my community to build this game up to completion. This game started really small in ideas, a world where magic was grounded in cooking.... and then it kind've blew up into 4 different magic skill types. Weapons? Same kindve shifted haha. So!
Without further ado , I'd like to welcome you to Grimoire: Four Words.
Dev Log 1:
Equipment based Skill Learning System:
Skills are learned in what I believe to be a fairly unique way. Characters master skills for their class through practice. What does that mean? Many weapons characters use during their adventure are imbued with Skills. While equipped the Character can use the associated ability
Equipment Skill Example 1
Lucien has the sword "Firebrand" equipped. While equipped Lucien is able to use the skill "Fire Blade"
Nothing crazy right? But what happens when Lucien switches weapons? He can no longer use Fire Blade.
Why? He never tracked his progress. Therefore in wasn't mastered. In this project, in order for Characters to use skills without having a specific weapon equipped they must master that skill while holding the appropriate Grimoire.
Equipment Skill Example 2
Lucien has the "Wooden Staff" equipped. While equipped Lucien gains access to the spells Fire I, Ice I, and Thunder I. In order to master each of these spells, Lucien must use them in battle 10 times while equipped with the "Basic Spells" tome, which we'll find in his Grimoire equipment slot.
Once mastered, characters will no longer need to have the weapon or associated Grimoire equipped to use that skill as it will be permanently learned by the actor and usable (so long as the character or class has access to that Skill Type).
This system is an amalgamation of Fomar's Equipment Skill System, Maliki's Dual Wield MZ, & Battle Core VisuStella MZ.
That was a lot to cover for an intro so I'll leave the Class System for another day!
I hope to have a demo up soon covering at least the prologue and exploring some of the skills system though story based tutorials (hurray fetch quests!)
